Neuromuscular & Vestibular PYT


Course Description This 2 day course will prepare the licensed health care professional to plan inpatient, outpatient, and community based yoga therapy programs for those with neuromuscular dysfunction or disability in order to improve patient outcomes. Practitioners will learn about developing cash based programs for increasing continuity of care, and learn how to sequence and plan yoga and yoga therapy courses and programs for the neuromuscular and vestibular populations.

Audience Licensed health care professionals who work with patients or clients across the lifespan who have neuromuscular, vestibular or cerebellar, neuropathy, TBI, dementia, or Parkinson’s disease or precursors to disease or dysfunction; This course is also appropriate for those clinicians planning yoga therapy for the geriatric population.

Continuing Education Units Earned: 16 CE

Clinical Objectives

  1. Unify yoga therapy, Ayurveda, and western rehabilitation and psychology methods to enact positive change in improved patient outcomes.
  2. Develop a thorough understanding for applying yoga as therapy to the neuromuscular system of the body.
  3. Develop yoga classes and programming for neuromuscular special populations.
  4. Study affective, cognitive, sensorimotor, and proprioceptive evaluative techniques in the PYT™ neuromuscular evaluative paradigm.
  5. Recognize the importance of and be able to apply basic Ayurvedic analysis and management within the neuromuscular demographic.

Prerequisites Required - Health Care license and a personal yoga practice. Strongly recommended but not required - PYT I & II, III & IV; yoga therapy or teaching experience

Day 1

8 - PYT Precepts & Evaluative Model

10 - Lecture/lab – evaluative techniques

12 - Lunch – on your own

1 - Lecture/Lab Pathophysiology review and discussion

5 - Closure

Day 2

8 - Review in lab setting

9 - Topics in pathophysiology including aging/dementia; cerebellar sequences; BD disorders; PARKINSON’S; neuropathy; TBI

12 - Lunch on your own

1- Case studies – evaluation & management of all sequences

5 - Closure
